Winter Reading 2025: Recommended reads for teens this holiday season!

2025 is coming to a close but there’s still a week of Winter Break! We're rounding out our Winter Reading series with some suggested books for secondary students to enjoy this season.

The Sticky Note Manifesto of Aisha Agarwal by Ambika Vohra – 2025-26 Surrey Teens Read nominee

Looking for Smoke by K. A. Cobell – 2025-26 Surrey Teens Read nominee

When a young girl goes missing and another is found murdered on the Blackfeet Reservation, the four teens who were the last to see her must work to find the real murderer. Written from multiple points of view, the story follows the lives of Mara, Brody, Loren and Eli as they attempt to piece together clues and suspicions surrounding the murder. Cobell has created a gripping mystery focusing on the grief, betrayal and injustices surrounding the tragedy of missing and murdered Indigenous women.

 

When We Ride by Rex Ogle

This is the story of two childhood friends, Diego and Lawson, growing up in a world of poverty, addiction and violence. Diego strives to improve his life and get into college, while Lawson deals drugs to make ends meet. Their friendship is tested as Diego is torn between securing his own future and remaining loyal to his best friend. This fast-paced novel in verse, is filled with intense action, raw emotions and heartbreaking struggles.

 

Catch Your Death by Ravena Guron

Devi, Jane and Lizzie become trapped on an estate in the middle of a snowstorm when their host is suddenly murdered. Filled with suspense and twists, this is an engaging whodunit murder mystery involving secret passageways, hidden weapons and a wealthy, enigmatic family. An entertaining read for a snowy (or rainy) day!
